Suspect Killed In Shootout With Mequon Police: DOJ

A report of shots fired at a Mequon home led to a suspect exchanging gunfire with police, the Wisconsin Department of Justice said.

MEQUON, WI β€” A report of shots fired at a Mequon home Wednesday afternoon led to police and the suspect exchanging gunfire until the suspect was killed, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice.

Police found the person barricaded in a home in the 3100 block of Bonniwell Road around 3:31 p.m., the DOJ release said. Eventually, the person exited and started shooting at officers who then shot the person, the news release said. First responders tried to render aid but the person was dead on the scene, the DOJ said.

A report by CBS 58 said the situation developed when a caller told police he was mowing his lawn and his neighbor shot at him.

The officer who was involved was put on administrative leave as the shooting is investigated, authorities said. No police were injured in the encounter.

The Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation is reviewing evidence and will later turn over reports to the Ozaukee County District Attorney's Office for review, the news release said.
