GREEN BAY, WI — Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers officially signed an extension with the team, Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced Tuesday.

The terms of the contract were not released, but the deal will earn Rodgers $150 million over the next three seasons with two voidable years at the end of the deal, according to ESPN.

The official signing comes a week after it was revealed Rodgers was returning to the Packers. Rodgers refuted reports outlining details of a four-year, $200 million contract that he and the Packers had agreed on.

The newly-reported terms have Rodgers earning a similar $50 million average annual value but counting significantly less against the salary cap in the first three seasons thanks to bonuses and the voidable years at the end of the deal. Rodgers will count approximately $28.5 million against the Packers' 2022 salary cap and will have cap figures of $31.6 million and $40.7 million the following two seasons, according to Spotrac.

The new contract clears about $18 million in salary cap room for the Packers in 2022.

Green Bay began the NFL's legal tampering period, which began Monday, about $46 million over the cap. The Packers released outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith and offensive lineman Billy Turner and extended the contract of outside linebacker Preston Smith this week as they worked to get below the cap by the 3 p.m. Wednesday deadline.

The Packers could clear more room by signing receiver Davante Adams to a long-term deal. Green Bay placed the franchise tag on Adams last week shortly after the news of Rodgers' return broke. Under the franchise tag, Adams will remain on the Packers and will earn $20.1 million on a one-year deal. The two sides have until July to negotiate a long-term contract, and Adams has told the Packers he won't play under the franchise tag, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapaport.
