Packers Head Coach Reacts After Buffalo Bills Damar Hamlin Collapses

GREEN BAY, WI — National Football League coaches across the country, including Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur, are sending hope and reacting after Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field Monday.

By Wednesday, Hamlin was still sedated and on a ventilator after suffering cardiac arrest in Monday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The 24-year-old had to be resuscitated twice after the collapse, his uncle Dorrian Glenn told CNN Tuesday night.

LaFleur on Wednesday told reporters he "addressed it with the team this morning. And it was very, very quiet in there. And I know it's something that's been on our guys' minds quite a bit."

"I think it's tough for these guys to compartmentalize and understand that; You're thinking about that, you're trying to get ready for a game," LaFleur said in a news conference published by the Packers' Twitter.

In a statement published to Twitter Tuesday, the Green Bay Packers said its thoughts are with Hamlin, his family, and the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals.

"We continue to send our support and best wishes to Damar and all of his loved ones," the Packers wrote.

Arizona Cardinals player and Pewaukee, Wisconsin, native J.J. Watt also expressed support for Hamlin on Twitter.

"The game is not important. Damar Hamlin’s life is important. Please be ok. Please," wrote Watt in a Tweet Monday.

Following Hamlin's collapse on field, a GoFundMe page established in 2020 as a toy drive for his mother's daycare center has received new attention. The drive originally had a goal of raising $2,500, and by Wednesday it has raised over $6 million pledged.
