GREENDALE, WI β€” Greendale Police Department responded to inquiries about the crosswalk on Loomis Road at 68th Street.

Greendale has crosswalks across the Village, but rules tend to be the same for crosswalks across the State. The department reminded residents in a Facebook post about the laws regarding crosswalks in Wisconsin.

Users of crosswalks that are not located in a controlled intersection must follow Wisconsin State Statute 346.24, the department posted.

The statute requires cars to stop for pedestrians that are already in a crosswalk. Pedestrians shouldn't enter a crosswalk when it would put them in the path of a vehicle too close to stop, according to the post.

While drivers must stop for the crosswalks, pedestrians remain responsible for ensuring cars can stop safely, the post said.

"As the summer continues, please make sure that if you are driving on Loomis Rd or using this crosswalk that you are very aware of the traffic conditions and carefully traverse this area!" the department said in the post.
