Excessive Heat Warning Issued for St. Croix County
National Weather Service: The maximum heat index "will soar to between 100 and 110 across west central Wisconsin" Sunday through Tuesday.
A wave of high temperatures is forecast to pass through Minnesota for a few days, which prompted the National Weather Service to issue an excessive heat warning for St. Croix County, among others.
The warning began noon Sunday, Aug. 25 and continues through Tuesday, Aug 27.
An excess heat warning means a prolonged period of “dangerously hot temperatures will occur,” according to the National Weather Service alert. Temperatures are forecast to continue in the high 90s through Tuesday with the heat index values into the 100s.
The maximum heat index “will soar to between 100 and 110 across central and south central Minnesota and west central Wisconsin” during the afternoon hours Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service alert. “The hot and humid conditions will lead to a heightened risk of heat related stress and illness…especially the young and elderly…those without air conditioning…and people participating in strenuous outdoor activities.”

- If outside, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours and take frequent rest breaks in the shade or an air conditioned indoors.
- Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
- Wear light, loose fitting clothing.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Stay out of the sun.
- Check up on relatives and neighbors.
