Mako Aquatics Concludes A Successful 2022 LCM Season

Holds Evaluation/Tryouts for the New Season

The 2022 Summer Championship Season concluded with 4 Championship Meets (Age Group State, Senior State, USA Swimming Junior Nationals and Central Zones) for Mako Aquatics swimmers. The weekend of July 21-24 fifteen (15) Mako Aquatics swimmers headed to the University of Minnesota to compete in the 2022 MN Senior State Championships where as a group they raced to 1st Place as a Team in the AA Division, a 7th place team finish overall (out of 35 teams), Andrew Hanson coming away with the Distance High Point and the overall Boys High Point with 3 Individual State Titles and 2 Runner ups additionally Andrew achieved a new USA Swimming Summer Junior National cut in the 100 free as well as bonus cuts in the 400 and 800 free. On the girls side Ellery Ottem swept the freestyle events she was entered in (50, 100, 200, 400, 800) in route to the overall Girls High Point. Notable swims included Maggie McNamara’s and Aubrey Frey’s new Zone times in the 50 free and 100 back respectively, Kate Rotramal’s first Age Group Champ time in the 50 free and Sherman Holmstadt's new Summer Sectional cut in the 100 back, Ellie Wilson’s personal best in the 1500 at her first Senior Champ Meet. The following Team Records were broken: 17-18 Girls Ellery Ottem 50/200/400/800 free, 100 fly; 15-16 Boys Andrew Hanson 100/200/400/800 free; 17-18 Boys Theo Johansen 100/800 free; 19&0 Boys Steven Asmus 100 back.

The following weekend (July 28-July 31) 10 of our 14&unders swimmers competed in the 2022 MN 14&U State Championships in Rochester, MN. The team placed 20th in the overall team standings, 10th for men and 16th for women. Notable swims included top 8 finishes from Aubrey Frey 100 & 200 back (6th) and 50 back (8th); Maggie McNamara 200 free (4th), 50 back (5th), 100 free (6th) and 100 back & 400 free (8th); Jackson Polasky 50 fly (3rd) and 100 fly (8th).

July 31st Andrew Hanson and Coach Bob headed to Irvine, CA for the USA Swimming Summer Junior National Championships August 1-5, 2022 where Andrew swam the 50/100/200/400 free.

August 4-7, 2022 Aubrey Frey (100 back) and Maggie McNamara (50/100 free) represented Team Minnesota at the Central Zone Meet where each swam personal bests in their individual events and were members of top 8 Team Minnesota Relay Teams.

Mako Aquatics also bid a farewell and good luck to our Seniors (Jane Briese MSU Mankato, Theo Johansen Seattle University, Hannah Zurn Macalester College) as they depart to undertake their college academic and swimming careers.
