County Of Dane : Festge County Park Incident-Update

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is providing an update related to the reported Officer involved Shooting at Festge Park on October 21, 2021.    

The Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) was the lead investigative agency into the incident.   The Dane County Sheriff’s Office also conducted an administrative investigation into the incident.   In order to maintain the integrity of the DCI investigation, the outcome of the administrative investigation was not shared publicly.   The Sheriff’s Office was notified last week that DCI has concluded their investigation.  DCI’s investigative reports have been turned over to the Dane County District Attorney.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office can now confirm that Sara Bortz-Rodriguez, age 30, was the deputy involved.   Ms. Bortz-Rodriguez was hired with the Sheriff’s Office on May 12, 2014.   As a result of the administrative investigation, Sara Bortz-Rodriguez’s employment with Dane County was terminated on November 17, 2021.   

No further information will be provided until after the Dane County District Attorney has reviewed the investigation.
