6-Year-Old Girl Dies; Search Is On For Hit-And-Run Driver
A 6-year-old girl died in a hit-and-run crash and two other children were seriously injured Thursday night.
MILWAUKEE, WI — Police in Milwaukee are searching for the driver of a vehicle that slammed into three children who were on their way home from school on Thursday. A 6-year-old girl died in the hit-and-run crash and two other children were seriously injured.
According to the Milwaukee Police Department, the children were walking home from Gwen Jackson Elementary School playground at just after 5:30 p.m. Thursdsay when they started crossing W. Center Street.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, when speaking about the incident at a press conference Thursday night, said the children were walking in a crosswalk, and following the traffic signals at the intersection when the unthinkable happened.

Milwaukee Police say the driver of a gray Saturn Aura sped through the intersection, weaving around cars that were stopped at the intersection, before slamming into the three children. According to a WISN-TV report, the children had the right-of-way in the crosswalk when the car blew through the intersection in the bike lane.

Police say the suspect’s vehicle was heading east on Center Street when the driver ignored a red light, and caused accident. Police said a 10-year-old boy, a 4-year-old girl and a 6-year-old girl were all seriously hurt. They were all transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The 6-year-old girl later succumbed to her injuries and died at the hospital, police said.

"We have had too many of these incidents. I don't want to start saying the same thing I've been continuously saying, but when is enough enough," Milwaukee Police Assistant Chief Ray Banks said Thursday night.
Milwaukee Police are asking for help to find the driver and vehicle involved in the accident. Police described the suspect’s vehicle as a gray 2007-2009 Saturn Aura. The suspect’s vehicle has front end damage with tinted widows.
