RIVER HILLS, WI — After a 32-year political career, Republican State Sen. Alberta Darling on Wednesday announced plans to step down in December, according to a report by The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Darling represents the 8th District, which covers parts of Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington and Waukesha counties. The Journal Sentinel report noted that a special election will have to be called to fill the rest of Darling's term.
