📰 News we're reading

1. Milwaukee to resume leaf pickup after snow removal pause (wisn.com) — Milwaukee’s Department of Public Works is restarting leaf pickup this week after an early snowstorm forced crews to pause collections and left frozen piles clogging streets and parking spots, especially on the East Side. With more than 400 known piles citywide, officials are asking residents to report any remaining leaf mounds so crews can clear them and free up much-needed parking.

2. What's the secret to Milwaukee Rep's success as theaters struggle? (jsonline.com) — Milwaukee Repertory Theater is thriving with record-breaking shows and a remodeled venue, even as many regional theaters struggle post-pandemic. This newsletter also highlights an investigation into Harmony Housing, a nonprofit-linked landlord in Wisconsin accused of taking large tax breaks while tenants question property upkeep and the group’s ties to a for-profit New York firm.

3. South Milwaukee students spread holiday cheer at assisted living facility (fox6now.com) — Residents at Franciscan Villa in South Milwaukee enjoyed an early burst of Christmas cheer as Zion Lutheran School students and families delivered gifts, treats, and carols through their annual Giving Tree program. Volunteers say the visit, aimed at seniors who may be far from family, sparked emotional moments and tears of joy, with planning for next year’s outreach set to begin around Thanksgiving.

4. Premier women's college volleyball event to be held at Fiserv Forum next year (biztimes.com) — Milwaukee volleyball fans can look forward to Fiserv Forum hosting the 2026 AVCA First Serve event August 21–23, bringing eight top women’s college teams for six matches over three days. Building on record-setting crowds and past showcases, organizers say the city’s strong volleyball culture makes it an ideal stage for this national-level tournament.
