MILWAUKEE, WI — A quiet Milwaukee neighborhood was shattered Sunday when, according to police, a 29-year-old woman beat her own mother to death with a rock in the backyard of their home.
Family later identified the victim as 64-year-old Carrie Zettel, a woman friends described as "caring" and "selfless."
"The officer told me it happened in the backyard, and she beat her mother to death with a rock, that's what they told me," Susan Henderson-Hoffmann, a friend of the victim, told 12 News.

"I am really having a hard time dealing with this. I am not going to lie to you guys. I knew her my whole life," she added.
Friends told 12 News that Zettel's daughter had struggled with mental health issues.

Police have a 29-year-old suspect in custody, and the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office will decide on charges, FOX 6 reported.
