MILWAUKEE, WI — A pedestrian was killed early Sunday in a downtown Milwaukee hit-and-run, leaving authorites to look for a black pickup truck that was involved in the crash, according to Milwaukee police.

It happened just after 12:30 a.m. near 6th Street and Juneau Avenue, according to police, adjacent to a downtown entertainment district. The pedestrian died from the injuries sustained in the crash, police said, while the driver of the black truck drove away without stopping to render aid.

Police said the suspect vehicle is a black 2021-2022 Dodge Ram 1500 TRX with amber lights in a hood scoop, flashing amber lights on side mirrors and possibly flashing headlights. Authorites said the truck likely has front-end damage. The photos shared by police are below.

The suspect's truck was last seen speeding north on 6th Street just north of McKinley Avenue, police said.

TMJ4 News identified the person who was struck and killed as 23-year-old Xavier Casanova Davis. Davis' mother, Gloria Shaw, told the television station that her late son was planning to start classes at Milwaukee Area Technical College this year with hopes of becoming a photojournalist.

"Turn yourself in, please," Shaw told TMJ4. "You killed my heart, you took an amazing young man from his family."
