Elevated Bacteria At Milwaukee Beaches: Closings And Advisories

The DNR closed beaches in Milwaukee's North Shore on Friday amid elevated bacteria. Advisories were put in effect for other area beaches.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Lake Michigan beaches in Milwaukee County's North Shore communities were closed Friday amid elevated bacteria levels and other area beaches were put under advisory, online updates from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources showed.

Beaches at Doctors Park, Klode Park and Atwater Park were closed on Friday after samples taken on Thursday showed elevated levels of E Coli., online updates from the DNR showed.

The North Shore Health Department said people should not swim at the closed beaches. The parks will be tested again on Monday with results expected on Tuesday, the health department said in a post on Facebook.

Meanwhile, rainfall advisories were put in effect for Bradford Beach and South Shore Park on Thursday, and a bacteria advisory was put in effect for Grant Park on Friday, though the parks remain open.
