MILWAUKEE, WI — Before children go out trick or treating on Halloween, fall is a good time to take an inventory of who is living in your neighborhood.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, there are 2,243 registered sex offenders within the city of Milwaukee, the most in any metro Milwaukee region. Milwaukee ranked 27th in the U.S. with just over 38 registered sex offenders per 10,000 people.

You can use the Wisconsin Department of Justice Sex Offender Map to search your neighborhood if you don't want your child knocking on the door of a sex offender. You can access the registered sex offender's name, address, current age, convictions, and the age of the offender and victim at the time of the offense. You can also search based on an entire city.

Registered sex offenders who are currently on active supervision are not prohibited from passing out candy on Halloween in Wisconsin. Some states have strict laws on sex offender behaviors during the season, including not wearing costumes outside of their home. ,

Wisconsin now has the seventh-largest sex offender registry in the country, with more than 21,000 registrants on its database.
