'I Just Massacred My Whole Family,' Milwaukee Shooter Said: Cops

Milwaukee police said Christopher Stokes was waiting for police on the front steps of his duplex. Five people were found dead upstairs.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Milwaukee police say Christopher Stokes, 43, picked up the phone in his house late Monday and called 911. According to police, he told the operator, "Um, I just massacred my whole family. The gun is still upstairs with the bodies."

Milwaukee police rushed to a duplex in the 2800 block of North 12th Street and quickly cordoned off the area as a group of onlookers flooded the block to find out what happened.

In the end, authorities say, Stokes was charged with five counts of first-degree intentional homicide, and possession of a firearm by a felon for fatally shooting five family members. If convicted, Stokes faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Stokes is being held in the Milwaukee County Jail on a $500,000 cash bail, according to jail records.

Police said Stokes was waiting for police on the front steps of his duplex. When an officer asked if he heard any shots, he said, "Yeah, I didn't hear them, I did them," the criminal complaint read.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Milwaukee County, officers walked up the steps to the second floor of the duplex on North 12th Street. There, they found a camouflage 12-gauge shotgun lying on the floor with 12 spent shotgun shells scattered throughout the house.

According to Milwaukee police, 14-year-old Demetrius Thomas, 16-year-old Tera Agee, 17-year-old Lakeitha Stokes, 19-year-old Marcus Stokes and 41-year-old Teresa Thomas all died in the shooting.

Marcus Stokes was found in the living room. Demetrius Thomas, Tera Agee, Lakeitha Stokes and Teresa Thomas were all found in a northeast bedroom, dead apparent gunshot wounds, police said.

Police have yet to explain a motive in the shootings.
