MILWAUKEE, WI — The man accused of opening fire on a small gathering next door to his Milwaukee home in late August, wounding three and killing one, was found dead on Tuesday, police confirmed.

Police were looking for 57-year-old Leslie Bost near Port Washington Avenue and Capitol Drive just before 4 p.m. on Tuesday, police said. Officers knocked and announced themselves at a home and then they heard a gunshot inside, according to police. Police said the suspect took his own life.

Bost had been charged with first-degree reckless homicide and four counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety in Milwaukee County. A warrant was issued for his arrest on Thursday, according to online court records.

According to a criminal complaint, Bost opened fire on a gathering at a home in his same block near 22nd Street and Clarke Avenue on Aug. 24. A camera from across the street captured the event. People can be heard talking as if they were hanging out before a person can be seen walking onto the porch and opening fire, according to the criminal complaint. Several 9mm bullet casings were located in the area of the shooting, the complaint said.

When police arrived, they found one woman dead, the complaint said. Another woman was injured and laying on the porch, while a third gunshot victim was found inside the home, a fourth gunshot victim was later found at a hospital, and a fifth person who was shot but not hit was found hiding inside the home, according to the complaint.

Soon after police arrived and began helping the multiple people who were injured, smoke could be seen billowing out of the home next door, according to the criminal complaint. The upstairs unit of the burning building was rented out by the man who came to be the police's lead suspect, Leslie Bost, according to the complaint.

A relative of Bost told police they had no clue why he would have shot at his neighbors, according to the criminal complaint. Bost's relative described the suspect "as a very private person who holds grudges for a long time," the complaint said.
