Man Killed In Shootout After Gunfire Hits Milwaukee Police Cars: Cops

A man was killed in a shootout with Milwaukee police Tuesday evening when officers were responding to a ShotSpotter alert, police said.

MILWAUKEE, WI — A man was killed in an exchange of gunfire with police near 33rd and Cherry Streets Tuesday evening, Milwaukee police said in a news release.

Officers were responding to a ShotSpotter Alert around 9 p.m. in the area when their cars came under gunfire, police said. Officers got out of their squad cars and shot back at three people, according to the news release.

One of the suspects, a 40-year-old man from Milwaukee, was hit several times by gunfire from police, the news release said. First responders tried to save his life but he later died at a hospital, police said.

The two other suspects ran away and have not yet been found, police said. Nobody else was injured in the gunfire, according to police.

After the shootout, police said they found a handgun with a drum magazine that was used by one of the suspects. The officers who were involved were placed on administrative duty pending an investigation.
