Michels Tells Radio Host He Would Sign Abortion Ban With Exceptions
If the WI Legislature passes a bill with exceptions to the state's abortion ban, Tim Michels would sign it if elected, he told a radio show.

WISCONSIN — Republican candidate for Wisconsin governor Tim Michels told "The Dan O'Donnel Show" on Friday that he would sign an abortion ban that has exceptions for rape and incest if elected.
That's if the state's Legislature — currently controlled by Republicans in the Assembly and Senate — brought him such a bill. Michels told the show's host, Dan O'Donnel, that he is "pro-life," but that he understands "this is a representative democracy and if the people, in this case the Legislature, brought a bill before me, I would sign it."
Michels has previously spoken in support of Wisconsin's current abortion ban, which the state reverted back to after the U.S. Supreme Court effectively repealed Roe v. Wade. During a TMJ4 debate against his primary candidates in July, Michels said he was "pro-life."

Additionally, during an interview in June with a WISN 12 reporter, Michels said he would not support adding exceptions for rape and incest to the current Wisconsin law.
Gov. Tony Evers seemed to respond to the matter Friday afternoon in a tweet saying he has been "firm" in his support for abortion rights.

In a statement distributed to media, Evers' campaign said "Tim Michels is trying to save his flailing campaign with a dishonest attempt to hide his stance on abortion."
