Milwaukee Man Punched, Killed Victim Outside Club: Documents

Court documents say he punched the victim's head so hard he froze up, fell backwards and was unable to break his fall.

MILWAUKEE, WI β€” A Milwaukee man is facing charges in the death of another man during a late night fight earlier in June, according to court documents. Leandro Guzman, 24, is accused of punching a man, resulting in his death.

Around 2:30 a.m., Guzman was at the District Night Club on N. Water Street in Milwaukee. A witness, who was with a group of friends and knows Guzman, told police she approached Guzman and told him to leave her alone.

When the witness' group left the club, Guzman was waiting outside, the court documents say. The witness walked up to Guzman to say goodnight, she told police. Guzman responded by asking the witness which of the men she was with was her "baby daddy."

The witness and her group began to walk away, but Guzman followed, the documents say.

When they got to a street corner, Guzman "shoved" the witness out of the way and punched the victim in the side of the head. The victim froze up, the witness told police, and fell backwards, unable to break his fall. His head hit the pavement, she told police.

The victim never regained consciousness, the documents say, and was taken to Froedtert Hospital where he was pronounced dead on June 19.

The coroner's report says the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.

If convicted, Guzman faces up to nine months in prison on the battery charge and up to 15 years because the victim died.
