Two Advance In Milwaukee Mayoral Race: Results Are In
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has a new challenger in the mayor's race — and it's one of his sharpest critics.

MILWAUKEE, WI — The results are in, and incumbent Tom Barrett will face a new challenger in the April 7 general election in the form of Wisconsin State Sen. Lena Taylor. Barrett garnered half of all ballots cast, with Taylor collecting nearly one-third.
Taylor (D-Milwaukee) represents Wisconsin's fourth State Senate district, which includes Shorewood and parts of Milwaukee, Wauwatosa and Glendale.
Taylor announced her candidacy in early Sept. 2019. "We are not going to sit on the sideline with the disparity in this community," she said shortly after her announcement. "I am not going to give anyone a pass. No one. My heart is for the people."

Taylor represents a notable challenge to Milwaukee's incumbent mayor, and has consistently criticized his administration for allowing issues like housing, jobs and racial profiling to fester as he pursues other issues.

During a recent State of the City address, Barrett said Milwaukee was moving forward, yet is beset by challenges. Barrett cited dropping crime rates and efforts to improve housing, early childhood education and business growth.
The biggest splash in 2020 is the upcoming Democratic National Convention, which will be held July 13-16.
