MILWAUKEE, WI — In a brief update Tuesday, Milwaukee police said the officer who was inadvertently shot Friday after a police foot chase is home recovering.

It happened near 11th and Keefe Avenue around noon that day after police exchanged gunfire with a suspect who was wanted in connection with a felony violation of a domestic abuse court order, according to a news release put out Friday by Milwaukee police. The suspect, a 43-year-old man, died after the chase from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

The officer was shot by the suspect's gun when other officers were approaching the suspect and stabilizing him with a tactical ballistic shield, according to police.
