Milwaukee Suing Another Driver In Strategy Against Reckless Driving
Milwaukee is bringing another driver to court as part of the city's ongoing strategy against reckless driving, police announced on Monday.

MILWAUKEE, WI — The City of Milwaukee is bringing another driver to civil court as part of an initiative to confront reckless driving, police announced on Monday.
The defendant, LaShawn Thomas, has received 13 traffic citations in Milwaukee in 2022 and 37 total since 2017, Milwaukee police said in a news release. The defendant's citations have included reckless driving, failure to stop, unsafe passing and speeding, according to police. Thomas is the second person to face a lawsuit from the city in the new strategy, the first was sued in July.
"We are requesting that a Milwaukee County Circuit Court judge find that Mr. Thomas’ dangerous driving is a public nuisance and order injunctive and equitable relief. Failure to comply with that injunction could result in contempt of court remedies, such as seizing his vehicle or being sentenced to jail," police said.

As part of the initiative, police said they have identified 20 people who have been ticketed more than 10 times in the past five years. The agency said it has been working to notify each person that they may be sued in the future if reckless driving behavior continues.
“MPD continues to work on a multifaceted approach to combat reckless driving and need
assistance from everyone, including our community. The civil litigation approach against
egregious reckless drivers is intended to send a clear message to all the chronic reckless
drivers in Milwaukee that we take the safety of everyone on the roadways in our community
very seriously," said Chief Jeffrey Norman in the release.
