The search for Harris led police to the Sherman Park neighborhood Thursday based on information they received from two men currently in custody in connection with the homicide of Harris' mother, Mallery Muenzenberger, Milwaukee Police Inspector Paul Formolo said earlier on Thursday.

The two men had not been charged with any crimes to date and are only connected to Muenzenberger, according to Police Sgt. Efrain Cornejo, who also spoke to reporters earlier in the day.

Muenzenberger's family issued a statement Thursday stating they were heartbroken to say a final goodbye to her and intended to take Major to La Crosse when he was found.

"I share the sadness people throughout Milwaukee feel with the death of Major Harris, and I offer condolences to his family," Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said in a statement. "Thank you to the police, other city officials and citizens who have worked to find Major. Our prayers for justice and peace continue."

The search for Harris began Saturday when police issued an Amber Alert. Police found the car associated with the Amber Alert on Monday and the man they suspected in the boy's mother's homicide was found dead on Sunday. However, there was still no sign of the missing child.

Police recovered evidence from the SUV that was identified in the Amber Alert, Formolo said. However, there have been no DNA results from a lab test yet.

Muenzenberger was found dead near North 37th Street and West Clarke Street on Oct. 14, Milwaukee police said.

The man suspected in the homicide, Jaheem Clark, was found dead as police searched a house in the 5400 block of North 41st Street on Sunday. Officers heard two gunshots and found Clark dead inside the house, police said.
