Risk Of Lightning Coming With Morning Storms: NWS

The National Weather Service said that thunderstorms with the risk of ground lightning would impact Milwaukee and surrounding counties.

MILWAUKEE — A strong thunderstorm with the risk of ground lightning is expected to affect several southeast Wisconsin counties.

The thunderstorm will impact Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington counties through 9 a.m., the National Weather Service said in a statement.

Winds up to 30 mph could knock down tree limbs and unsecured objects, the NWS said. Cloud to ground lightning is occurring with the storm and lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm.

Penny-sized hail is also expected, the weather service said. People are advised to stay indoors or in a vehicle.

Today: Showers and thunderstorms before 11 a.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11am and noon, then scattered showers and thunderstorms after noon. High near 68. East wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. East wind around 10 mph becoming south after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 79. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming west in the afternoon.

Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 60. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 75. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 60. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
