Two Killed In Weekend Hit-And-Run Crashes In Milwaukee

Another five people were left with injuries ranging from minor to serious, police said.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Police in Milwaukee are investigating two weekend hit-and-run crashes that left two people dead.

The first crash happened at 3:47 a.m. on Saturday in the 1700 block of N. Water Street. In a news release, police said a vehicle struck a group of pedestrians as they were crossing the street.

Two 18-year-0ld men and an 18-year-old woman were injured and taken to a nearby hospital.

Police said a 23-year-old man was also injured and left in critical condition. CBS 58 reports the man, identified as Giovanni Martinez, later died from his injuries.

According to the report, the incident stemmed from a fight. One witness told the news outlet a person got into his car and sped toward the group, striking some pedestrians at at least 40 miles per hour.

Police said the injured teens' injuries are not considered life threatening.

The second hit-and-run crash happened around 10:23 p.m. on Saturday in the 2400 block of W. Center Street.

In a news release, police said one vehicle was moving very fast when it hit another car, causing the second vehicle to hit a building and a pedestrian.

The first vehicle caught fire after the crash, and its occupants fled the scene on foot.

Police said the pedestrian, believed to be in her 30s, died from her injuries. The 40-year-old Milwaukee woman driving the second car had non-life threatening injuries. Her 19-year-old passenger was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Police are on the hunt for the driver of the first car, and an investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
