WI Automotive Company Announces Layoffs In November

An automotive molding company cut nearly 30 positions in its Beloit plant this month.

MILWAUKEE, WI — A Wisconsin company announced nearly 30 layoffs in November.

Toledo Molding and Die, a company that makes interior components for cars, said it would lay off 27 employees in November. The positions were eliminated to reduce the company's workforce.

A total of 20 operators, three support operators, two materials handlers and two quality operators were eliminated from the company plant in Beloit, the company said in a statement.

Each of the employees were notified of their layoffs and were represented by the United Automotive, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America, the company said. The company has a collective bargaining agreement with the union.

The workers will leave on Jan. 23, 2022, data from the Department of Workforce Development showed. There have been 2,417 workers laid off from Wisconsin companies in 2021, compared to 31,380 workers laid off in 2020.

These Wisconsin companies have had the highest number of workers laid off in 2021 as of November.

  • Clearwater Paper, 285 workers.
  • Calibre, Inc., 204 workers.
  • Hufcor, Inc., 166 workers.
  • Conagra Brands, Inc., 153 workers.
  • Air Wisconsin Airlines, 140 workers.

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act requires employers to give their workers notice 60 days in advance before plant closings and mass layoffs. Wisconsin state law also requires employers to give workers notice about shutdowns and layoffs if they have 50 or more workers in the state.
