WI Tornadoes: Here's How Many Hit State During Severe Weather

Tornadoes left damage scattered across multiple Wisconsin counties during last week's storms.

ACROSS WISCONSIN — Severe storms Wednesday night and into Thursday morning spawned 10 tornadoes that left damage and contributed to at least one death across several Wisconsin counties, according to the National Weather Service and media reports.

The weather's service's survey groups counted at least 10 tornadoes Sunday, according to the weather service. The last tornado surveyed occurred in Farmington in Jefferson County.

Here's a list of tornadoes that occurred Wednesday night and Thursday morning:

  • An EF0 tornado touched down in southwest Watertown in Jefferson County between 1:05 a.m. and 1:07 a.m. Thursday.
  • An EF1 tornado created a path from Concord to Dousman in Jefferson County between 1:05 a.m. and 1:20 a.m. Thursday.
  • An EF0 tornado touched down east of Wales in Waukesha County at around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
  • An EF1 tornado touched down along School Section Lake Road in Waukesha County at around 1:20 a.m. Thursday.
  • An EF0 tornado touched down in Cross Plains in Dane County at around 12:40 a.m. Thursday.
  • An EF1 tornado touched down southeast of Cross Planes at around 12:40 a.m. Thursday.
  • An EF1 tornado touched down south of Middleton in Dane County at around 12:40 a.m. Thursday.
  • An EF1 tornado touched down north of Verona in Dane County between 12:47 a.m. and 12:57 a.m. Thursday.
  • An EF0 tornado touched down north of Farmington in Dane County at around 1:10 a.m. Thursday.

A 29-year-old man was killed after crashing into a fallen tree and power line outside of Ripon Thursday, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.

Tornadoes with the speed of EF1, which has winds between 73-11 miles per hour, can cause moderate damage, the weather service explains. EF0 tornados have winds of 40-72 miles per hour and are capable of causing light damage like broken branches, the weather service added.
