Woman Shot Dead At Milwaukee Business, Suspect Shoots Self: Police

Police said the suspect in a homicide near 34th and National shot himself when officers confronted him on Wednesday.

MILWAUKEE, WI — A woman was fatally shot Wednesday afternoon near 34th Street and National Avenue on Milwaukee's south side. When police confronted the suspected shooter just blocks away, he shot himself in the head, according to a statement from Milwaukee police.

The 49-year-old woman was shot just after 2 p.m., police said. According to a report by CBS 58, she was at her place of work when it happened. The suspected shooter, a 62-year-old man, was the woman's husband, the report said.

Officers found the suspect near 26th and State Street and used a "non-lethal" weapon in his direction, police said. The man then shot himself in the head and was brought to a local hospital in critical condition, according to police.

Of the eight women killed in apparent homicides in July, five were apparently killed by their domestic partners, the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office said Thursday on Twitter.
