MILWAUKEE, WI — Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett announced Tuesday that he wants the city to host the 2024 Democratic National Convention after a scaled-back convention in 2020.
"Our response is an enthusiastic YES!" Barrett said in a letter to Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison.
The city is ready with facilities and hotel accommodations to hold the conventions, Barrett said. "In fact, Milwaukee will be particularly well situated in 2024 with a newly expanded convention center in close proximity to the Fiserv Forum Arena," he added.

The 2020 convention was supposed to have a $200 million economic effect on the city, Wisconsin Public Radio reported.

Then-presidential candidate Joe Biden was set to come to Milwaukee to accept the party's nomination but eventually canceled his visit.
The Biden administration selected Barrett as the U.S.'s next ambassador to Luxembourg, a small country in central Europe.
"This city is known for being hardworking, honest, respectful, inclusive, and diverse," Barrett said. "We care about our neighbors who face challenges, understanding government plays a vital role in promoting fairness and protecting people from harm."
