City Plans Custom Light Pole Banners Honoring 'Hometown Heroes'

The City of New Berlin is seeking active military who call New Berlin their hometown to participate in a banner program honoring them.

NEW BERLIN, WI — The City of New Berlin is seeking active military who call New Berlin their hometown to participate in a program that will fly their name on banners affixed to the street light poles throughout 2022, the city said in a news release.

The light pole banners will show the official military photo of the service member, their name, rank and branch. The banners will go up on Memorial Day and they're set to be flown through October. The banners will then be presented to participants at the 2022 New Berlin Veterans Day ceremony.

The program was designed to encourage the community to honor and recognize active military personnel, the city said.

The city said nominees must be actively serving in one of the following capacities:

  • "Army/Army Reserve/Army National Guard"
  • "Air Force/Air Force Reserve/Air National Guard"
  • "Coast Guard/Coast Guard Reserve"
  • "Marine Corps/Marine Corps Reserve"
  • "Navy/Navy Reserve"

Applicants must also consider New Berlin their hometown and they must attend the Veterans Day ceremony or send a representative in their place, the city's news release said.
