'CAFE' Cultural Celebration Returns To Drexel Town Square Saturday

Oak Creek's annual event to celebrate cultural diversity returns on Saturday with food, dancing, music and more.

OAK CREEK, WI — Oak Creek's annual event to celebrate cultural diversity returns to Drexel Town Square on Saturday with a variety of food, dances and more.

The event, now in its third year, is a day to celebrate Oak Creek's cultural diversity with education and conversation, a news release from the city said. It's called CAFE, which stands for Culture, Art, Food and Entertainment. The event is scheduled for 1-6 p.m. after the Oak Creek Farmers Market.

Visitors to the event can expect to find a "global experience" with various cultural groups sharing their history and numerous opportunities to engage in discussions that bring new perspectives and celebrate what makes Oak Creek unique.

“We are so eager to bring the CAFE event back to Drexel Town Square,” said Dan Bukiewicz, Mayor of Oak Creek in the news release. “The City of Oak Creek is committed to being a diverse, welcoming community, where we show unconditional respect for one another, despite our differences. CAFE furthers that mission by bringing residents and visitors together to take in the sights, sounds, and flavors of sometimes unfamiliar cultures. I encourage everyone to stop by for this rich cultural experience to celebrate our community’s diversity. Start at the Farmers Market and stay for CAFE!”

The entertainment lineup will include a message from Mayor Bukiwicz, Mike Hobbs singing Sinatra, Hispanic music, mariachi music, a Sikh turban tying demonstration, the African Drum Corps and Dance Troupe, a henna tattoo demonstration and more.

Visitors can also expect Palestinian, Mexican, Macedonian, Spanish and Albanian dancing, the event's website said.
