Drexel Avenue Could Reopen Soon

One major Oak Creek road project down, one to go.

City officials say Drexel Avenue, which has been closed between 13th and 27th streets since February, could reopen at the end of next week if all goes well.

It's not official, and there are issues to work through, but that is the timeframe being targeted. It's not clear whether the Drexel Interchange will be done by that time, and that affects whether the street itself can fully reopen, officials told Patch.

Drexel Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue are the two major road construction projects in Oak Creek this year.

Pennsylvania Avenue between College and Rawson reopened earlier this week as a four-lane street with improved street lighting and sidewalks.

Drexel will be a four-lane divided boulevard that will also include a 10-foot wide multi-use path along the north side, on-street bicycle accommodations, street lighting, additional turn lanes at 27th Street and stoplight modifications.
