Police in Oak Creek say a drunk driver's foray nearly led to a serious accident several times after he fled officers.

OAK CREEK, WI — Police in Oak Creek say a drunk driver's foray nearly led to a serious accident several times after he fled officers who tried to pull him over.
According to Oak Creek Police call logs, an Oak Creek police sergeant was on patrol in the 8700 block of S. Howell Ave. at just before 3 a.m. on Jan. 12 when he saw the driver of a vehicle speeding 80 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone.
Call logs stated that the officer attempted to pull over the vehicle, only to have its driver accelerate away from police. The officer reported watching as the driver veered off the road for about 500 feet, nearly striking several telephone poles along the way before eventually making it back on to the road.

According to police, the driver lost control of the vehicle on the 11300 block of S. Howell Ave. when he crashed into the ditch and became stuck. He attempted to spin his tires for about 5-10 minutes in an attempt to escape before getting stuck.
According to police, the man was arrested and transported to the Oak Creek Police Department where he failed standard field sobriety tests. When officers subjected the man to a preliminary breath test, the driver recorded a 0.19 blood alcohol concentration.

The man was charged with fleeing an officer, a conceal-carry weapons violation for having a loaded 9mm Glock handgun next to the driver's seat. He was also cited for his first drunken driving offense, police said.
