Extra Security Today At Joker Movie Premiere Due To Threat: FBI
The FBI says they discovered "disturbing" chatter about targeting an unknown movie theater during the Joker premiere on Oct. 4.
OAK CREEK, WI — Authorities in Oak Creek say there will be extra security at the Oct. 4 premiere of the Joker movie at the South Shore cinema following an FBI report regarding threatening online posts that call for mass shootings at the showings of the movie.
According to Oak Creek police call logs, a manager of the South Shore Cinema went to the Oak Creek police station on Sept. 26. The manager provided police with the dates and times they're screening the Joker movie.
According to call logs, the manager told police that the FBI sent out a bulletin regarding potential mass shooting threats that coincide with the screening of the movie. The threats were, according to reports, not specific to any city or state.

The manager told Oak Creek police that they would have additional security at the South Shore Cinema during the first several days of the Joker's run at the movie theater. Patch has reached out to Marcus Cinemas in Wisconsin to see if they are similarly providing additional security or putting additional safety precautions into place. We will update this story as soon as we learn more.
According to media reports, Army officials learned of potential threats after receiving a bulletin from the FBI. The notice, was precautionary, officials noted.

According to media reports, the FBI notice has been making the rounds across the U.S. Last week, an Army office in Oklahoma published this memo regarding potential - yet unspecific - threats.
"The Fort Sill CID Office received an intelligence bulletin regarding a credible potential mass shooting to occur at an unknown movie theater during the release of the new Joker movie scheduled on October 4, 2019," the Department of the Army 157th Military Police Detachment wrote in a Sept. 23 memorandum. Fort Sill is located in Oklahoma. "The intelligence bulletin was published by Travis County, Texas Sheriff's Office and working with the local FBI field office, they have discovered disturbing and very specific chatter in the dark web regarding the targeting of an unknown movie theater during the Joker release."
