What: This child care learning lab experience provides the opportunity for our high school students to work closely with preschool-aged children. Under the direction of Mrs. Riha, high schoolers will facilitate learning experiences to the preschoolers, which encourage school readiness and social skills. Each week students will engage in different themes that will focus on incorporating stories, songs, art projects, games, group activities, and individual exploration. Our goal is that the children who attend preschool will gain social and emotional skills within the play school environment that will aid them in adjusting to future schooling.
Where: Oak Creek High School in the newly renovated child care learning lab classroom (room 138)

How to enroll: Application link is HERE. Applications are due to Mrs. Riha by Friday, February 11th, 2022, but may close earlier if spots fill up.
Criteria to enroll: Students must be at least three years old by our start date, be fully potty trained, speak and understand basic English, and not have any special needs, which would require professionally trained individuals to provide services. This program is not intended to serve or support students with these characteristics, as it is a learning experience for high schoolers and not a licensed program. If you have a child that is age three or older within the Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District, that either has special needs or that you suspect may have special needs, please contact Angela Schultz at a.schultz@ocfsd.org
Additional information on this program: Check out the FAQs HERE. Due to this being a learning lab school experience, please be aware that this program is not a Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction recognized child care program and is not funded or licensed in that manner. Students do not have to be Oak Creek-Franklin School District residents. Transportation is not provided. Our program hopes to enroll approximately 10 preschool-aged children and our high school-aged students will be capped at 20. All high school students have previously taken child development and child care courses. Students are in 11th or 12th grade and are interested in pursuing careers working with children. By taking this lab experience course, they are also able to obtain MATC credits as well as state certifications to work with children.
Thank you for your interest and support of the Little Knights Play School!
