Oak Creek Franklin Joint School District: Oak Creek Hosts WI FBLA Regional Leadership Conference

On Saturday, February 5, 2022, Oak Creek hosted the WI Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Region VII Regional Leadership Conference (RLC). More than 600 students, guests, and advisers came to Oak Creek High School to participate in competitive events and workshops, hear keynote speakers, and more.

The day began with an opening ceremony that welcomed the students for the day and included a Miracle Moment for FBLA's partner organization, March of Dimes (MOD), which focuses on aiding and bringing awareness to mothers and premature babies. Through this Miracle Moment and the MOD Build Your Stax workshop, students were able to fundraise and donate $190.87 to the MOD.

Following the opening session, students were released to compete in career exploration and preparation related competitive events as well as a variety of workshops. From a grilled cheese lab hosted by the OCHS culinary team to an interactive school club networking lesson by the robotics team, the OCHS FBLA team was able to engage members while showcasing their school's amazing groups and facilities. The Armory School-Based Enterprise and brand new Knights' Cafe were also open and served students breakfast, snacks, and a variety of drinks.

After electing a new Region VII Vice President, the members heard from Member Education & Outreach Representatives for Educators Credit Union, Brian Gonzalez, who spoke on the importance of college financial planning. Following the keynote speaker, Region VII FBLA members received performances from OCHS' chamber choirs. Finally, to close out the day, hundreds of students were recognized for their performance in over 70 different competitive events with the top three places moving on to the State Leadership Conference in Madison this March.
