McCurdy Returns to Community Center Wednesday

The local funnyman brings his show to the summer concert series on the Oak Creek Community Center grounds.

It's not a stretch to say there is no musician in the Milwaukee area quite like Pat McCurdy.

Part-musician, part-comedian, the venerable McCurdy makes what has become an annual appearance at the 's summer concert series Wednesday night. The free show will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on the community center grounds, 8580 S. Howell Ave.

McCurdy is from Milwaukee, but many communities across Wisconsin can claim him as a "regular." He plays some 300 shows a year; in addition to this state, he travels often to the Chicago and Twin Cities areas.

The road-warrior mentality might help explain how he developed his cult following. "PatHeads" are known to show up at many of his shows, belt out the lyrics to all of McCurdy's songs and take the lead in song dances, where applicable.

Sex and Beer is McCurdy's most well-known song and a staple at live shows. So is Hey Paddy, Monkey Paw and medleys from the 1970s, 80s and 90s. Wednesday's show figures to be a little more family-friendly than other McCurdy gigs (though expect Sex and Beer to make an appearance).

The show Wednesday is the third in the community center's summer concert series. The series finishes off with In Black N White on Aug. 8 and Mt. Olive on Aug. 22.

Residents are invited to bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy some free live music. Food and beverages are available for purchase, or you can bring your own.

Also on Wednesday, Respect Our Waters will be on hand to educate residents on what they can do to improve area rivers and Lake Michigan. Learn more in the group's .
