Prince Tributes Popping Up In Milwaukee Area

Purple Rain screening in Milwaukee, splashes of purple in public, local personalities weighing in

MILWAUKEE - In honor of the life and musical career of Prince, Milwaukee's Lamar Advertising made two Prince billboards that are appearing on digital signage across the U.S.

According to a report today by OnMilwaukee.com, the billboards can be seen at the intersection of Greenfield Avenue, Cesar Chavez Drive and Muskego Avenue on Milwaukee’s South Side.

They're just the latest tributes that have been popping up in the Milwaukee area. Some are in public, others are in cyberspace, but people are taking the time to honor the longtime musician.

OnMilwaukee.com reports that one of the billboards reads "I Only Wanted To See You Laughing In The Purple Rain" and the other says "RIP" with the "P" crafted as the Prince symbol.

The Times Cinema is playing Purple Rain next week on the big screen:

Other tributes include Gen. Mitchell Field's giant MKE letters illuminated in purple:

Credit goes to Gov. Scott Walker, who made this notable tweet:

Prince was also apparently a pretty good basketball player in his youth. His half-brother was, too. UW-Milwaukee dug deep to come up with this tweet:
