Ozaukee County Declared Natural Disaster Area By Feds

Designation means farmers in Ozaukee County and elsewhere may be eligible for financial assistance, including emergency loans.

Federal officials have approved natural-disaster designations for 24 Wisconsin counties — including Ozaukee — where excessive rain and snow resulted in crop losses.

State officials asked the U.S. Department of Agriculture to have the counties designated as natural disaster areas. That request was approved on Wednesday, according to Patch's media partners at WISN 12 News.

With the designations, farmers who meet certain requirements are eligible for assistance, including emergency loans, WISN reports. Loan applications are judged based on the extent of crop losses and the ability of the farmer to repay the loan.
