WINTER CRIME SERIES: Shawano Police Warn of Burglaries and Property Theft If You Are Out Of Town (tchdailynews.com) — Shawano’s police chief is urging residents to secure their homes this winter, especially when they’re out of town, as burglars look for dark, empty-looking houses. Simple steps like locking doors and windows, using exterior lights, and asking neighbors to clear snow or collect mail can greatly reduce the chance of becoming a target.
   

2. Farmers can get aid if wildlife damage crops (newmedia-wi.com) — Shawano County farmers can get reimbursed for wildlife damage to corn and hay through the 2025 Wildlife Damage, Abatement and Claims Program, with prices recently set by the county Land Conservation Committee. Local enrollees must report damage quickly, follow required abatement steps, and can receive up to $10,000, with payments ultimately reimbursed by the DNR.
   

3. Shawano County Courts See Sharp Rise in Felony and Misdemeanor Cases (tchdailynews.com) — Shawano County’s courts are facing a sharp jump in felony and misdemeanor cases, with filings through November already exceeding all of last year and outpacing nearby counties. Clerk of Courts Ethan Schmidt says two new prosecutors in the district attorney’s office should help move cases faster and relieve some pressure on the busy local system.
   

4. Granquist scores 29 to lead Chargers to victory (newmedia-wi.com) — Shawano High’s girls basketball team fell 63-48 to Green Bay Preble, dropping the Hawks to 4-2 after struggling to overcome a hot first half from the Hornets. Nearby, Wittenberg-Birnamwood rolled past Weyauwega-Fremont behind 29 points from Melaina Granquist, with several other regional teams also picking up wins.
