• One firefighter hurt after fire damages home, garage near Sparta (weau.com) — A Christmas Eve fire heavily damaged a home and destroyed its garage just outside Sparta, sending one firefighter to the hospital with a fractured ankle but sparing the sleeping residents from injury. Crews from Erv's Sparta Area Fire Protection District and multiple Monroe County agencies responded around 6 a.m., and investigators believe the blaze began in the garage, leaving the insured homeowners temporarily displaced with family.
