Obituary: Elodia C. Melendez

Elodia C. Melendez, of Waukesha, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 79.

She was born in Thrall, TX, on March 20, 1933, the daughter of Lucio and Augustina (nee Romero) Carrillo. Along with her husband, Elodia was the co-owner of The Strand tavern for more than 42 years. Elodia enjoyed watching Mexican soap operas, loved angels and collecting angel figurines. 

She will be greatly missed by her children Ricardo Melendez, Raul M. Melendez, Juan A. Melendez and Rose Ann Melendez all of Waukesha, her precious grandchildren, Carlos M. Melendez and Michelle A. Melendez both of Waukesha and Matthew Schigur and Christana Schigur both of Mukwonago.  She is further survived by her siblings: Juanita (the late Premitivo) Nieto, Maria (the late Frank) Yanez, Delfina (Gregorio) Rodriguez, Antonio Carrillo, Maria Alicia (Guadalupe) Castillo Juan Lara, Ubaldo Lara and Lidia Martinez along with nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.  She was recently preceded in death by her husband Miguel on July 29, 2012, and also by her sisters, Jesusita Carrillo and Hepolita (Nate) Carrizales.

Services were held Thursday and Friday with the Rev. Todd Pope presiding.  Interment will immediately follow the service at Prairie Home Cemetery.
