The decision was due to ongoing coronavirus concerns, Waukesha County Sheriff's Office said.

WAUKESHA, WI— The annual Waukesha County's "Shop with a Sheriff" has been canceled due to increased concerns about the coronavirus. The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office announced the decision on Facebook on Friday.

"After careful consideration regarding the health and safety of our participants and volunteers, the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Shop with a Sheriff event," WCSO said.

The sheriff's office works with Waukesha County Health and Human Services to select children in need who reside in Waukesha County. Each child will be paired up with a deputy or officer and shop for holiday gifts for themselves and their family members

"We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event for our participants, their families and our volunteers however the health and safety of everyone involved is our top priority," WCSO said.

The sheriff's office added they anticipate the “Shop with a Sheriff” event will return in 2021.
