Brookfield Officer Injured During High-Speed Chase

The chase happened in Waukesha County. According to deputies, the suspect, a 23-year-old man from Madison, was taken into custody.

WAUKESHA COUNTY, WI—A Brookfield police officer is recovering from injuries received during a high-speed chase in Waukesha County late Monday night.

Shortly before midnight, the Waukesha County Communications Center received a call in reference to a reckless driver traveling eastbound on I-94, officials said.

A Waukesha County sheriff’s deputy located the vehicle and observed the suspect was traveling in excess of 90 miles per hour.

According to Lt. Nicholas Ollinger with the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy initiateda traffic stop, and the driver slowed down and pulled onto the shoulder of the roadway. However, after doing so, the suspect sped away from the traffic stop and continued onto eastbound I-94.

As the deputy pursued the suspect, officials said the suspect exited onto Hwy. 100 from eastbound I-94.

As the suspect tried to get back onto eastbound I-94, Lt. Ollinger said he crashed into a Brookfield police officer's marked patrol squad vehicle. That officer was transported to an area hospital and treated for minor injuries and released.

The suspect, a 23 year-old man from Madison, was taken into custody, Lt. Ollinger said. His name has not been released.

Assistance was provided by the Wisconsin State Patrol, City of Brookfield Police Department, City of West Allis Police Department and City of West Allis Fire Department.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office.
