Burglar Arrested After Threatening Police With Hose, Branch: Cops

WAUKESHA, WI — Police in Waukesha say a man caught burglarizing a house on Oakcrest Drive was suffering from the effects of an apparent drug overdose as he threatened officers with a hose and a tree branch.

According to Waukesha Police call logs, officers were dispatched to a house in the 2600 block of Oakcrest Drive for an apparent burglary in progress at just after 8 a.m. on Sept. 19.

Police said a 53-year-old Waukesha man attempted to break into the house during the daytime hours. Officers arrived quickly enough to confronted him while he was still at the home, police said.

Officers also said the man appeared to be experiencing “medically significant behavior,” related to an apparent drug overdose, Waukesha Police told Patch. According to police, the man sprayed himself with a garden hose to cool down, and sprayed responding officers with water from the hose. Police also said the man threatened officers with a tree branch.

Waukesha police said multiple officers were called to the house to assist, and the man was arrested - but not before he was pepper sprayed and then tasered twice before officers could gain control of him, police said.

Police said that once he was arrested, the 53-year-old man was quickly attended to by emergency responders, and transported to Waukesha Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police said the man was held on an emergency detention, and is expected to be charged with burglary and resisting arrest.
