Carroll University Chamber Orchestra Performing Sunday

The , directed by Motoaki Kashino, will perform at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, in Shattuck Music Center, 218 N. East Ave., Waukesha. This event is free and open to the public.

The program includes performances of “I Crisantemi” by Giacomo Puccini, “Romanian Folk Dances” by Béla Bartók, “Exsultate Jubilate,” featuring soprano Sarah Richardson of Milwaukee, and “Symphony No.13,” both by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and “Water Music Suite No. 3” by George Frideric Handel, in recognition of the university’s Year of Water. A piano and violin duo, Carroll junior Renee Smith and senior Hannah Klein, will perform Antonín Dvorak’s “Sonatina, Op. 100, I. Allegro risoluto.”

Carroll’s Chamber Orchestra is a student ensemble supplemented with community musicians. In addition to 22 student string players, the ensemble includes four student wind/brass players and seven community members for winds and brass. Community participants include Paul Thompson, a first-year associate instructor of choral music at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Dan Colburn, a former U.S. military bandsman from Waukesha, and Kaylyn Ruemler, a 2011 Carroll graduate who majored in sociology and music. This is Kashino’s first year at Carroll and he is eager to expand the ensemble in membership and repertoire.
