Man Armed With Rifle Shot, Killed By Deputies In Waukesha
Scott M, Kontowicz, 37, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
WAUKESHA, WI—A Waukesha man armed with a rifle died Thursday after deputies shot him just one day prior, according to the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department. The man has been identified as 37-year-old Scott M. Kontowicz.
"The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department would like to send our condolences to the family of Mr. Kontowicz. Our thoughts and prayers are also with the deputies that were involved," the sheriff's department said in a statement.
At at 5:53 p.m. Wednesday, the sheriff's office said the Waukesha County Communications Center received a call regarding a 37 year-old suicidal man who had "poured gasoline over himself" and was armed.

When deputies responded to the scene, they located the man, Kontowicz, outside of his home. Deputies did not say what led up to the officers ultimately opening fire; however, life-saving measures were initiated by deputies on scene, officials said.
Deputies said the suspect was taken into custody and transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment for his sustained injuries. Kontowicz was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The years of service for the deputies involved in the shooting range from five years to 20 years. None of the deputies involved in the incident were injured, according to the sheriff's department.
"This was a lone actor and there is not a threat to the community.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Waukesha Police Department at the request of the Waukesha County Sheriff's Office.
