1. Radon gas testing during the month of January in Waukesha County (gmtoday.com) — Waukesha County health officials are urging residents to test their homes for radon this January, noting the gas is the nation’s second-leading cause of lung cancer and is common in southeast Wisconsin. Affordable test kits are available locally, including through the Southeastern Wisconsin Radon Information Center and public health agencies, with more details at the county’s radon website. 
2. Bird flu fears force aviary to close at Waukesha nonprofit (fox6now.com) — A longtime Waukesha bird rescue has closed its public aviary after bird flu was detected in a goose at the Milwaukee County Zoo, about 12 miles away. C.A.R.E.’s retail shop remains open with strict shoe-sanitizing rules, and the nonprofit is seeking donations and a larger home to keep its 100-plus parrots and other birds safe and adoptable.
3. Brooks again seeks extension to file appeal (gmtoday.com) — Darrell Brooks, convicted for the 2021 Waukesha Christmas Parade attack, is seeking yet another extension to file his appeal, arguing he still lacks access to his case file in a South Dakota prison. State officials say he’s had the materials and research tools for months, and the Appeals Court has already warned that no further extensions would be granted, setting up a new legal clash over his claims.
4. Wisconsin man accused of killing parents to fund Trump assassination plot pleads guilty to homicide (wearegreenbay.com) — An 18-year-old has pleaded guilty in Waukesha County Circuit Court to two counts of first-degree intentional homicide for killing his parents at their home in the village of Waukesha. He now faces two mandatory life sentences, with a March 5 hearing to decide if he’ll ever be eligible for parole, while federal authorities continue probing his alleged broader violent plans.
