A Waukesha boy raises two pigs that received almost $1,400 at the auction while a Waukesha teen struggled with her cow's attitude at the Waukesha County Fair.
Hard work goes into showing animals at the In addition to the months of feeding and cleaning up after the animals, children and teens spend a significant amount of time training their animals.
For Gavin Black, a 9-year-old Waukesha boy who was showing pigs at the fair, it was worth it when his two pigs were sold at auction for almost $1,400. But he’s sad that he has to part ways with his two pigs – Squealer and Patriot.
“I am going to miss having to take care of them,” he said.

“My favorite part is hanging out with them, petting them and rubbing their noses,” Gavin said.
Gavin plans to show three pigs at the fair in 2013.

For 16-year-old Waukesha resident Virginia Kuenzi, it was the first time she brought a cow to the fair. It didn’t go exactly as planned for the teen who wants to have a career working with livestock. Her cow wasn’t the best behaved when it came to show time.
“It has been a rough experience,” said Virginia. “She just had a calf, so that contributed to her bad attitude today.”
