Wausau businesses benefitting from downtown officer initiative (wsaw.com) — Downtown Wausau shoppers and business owners will keep seeing dedicated police officers on foot in 2026, as the city and Judd S. Alexander Foundation share funding to extend the downtown officer initiative. After more than a year, police and merchants report fewer nuisance problems, stronger communication, and more comfortable visitors, with officers also connecting unhoused residents to local services.

2. Green Bay Packers grant boosts Wausau's Children's Imaginarium (waow.com) — Wausau families can look forward to a new sustainability-focused learning space at the Children’s Imaginarium, thanks to a Green Bay Packers Foundation grant aimed at teaching kids about recycling. The museum is ordering materials now and expects the interactive area, with free-build zones and classes, to be ready within a few months.
   

3. NAMI plans workshops to give mental health patients a voice in legislation (wsaw.com) — Residents in Wausau will soon have a chance to join NAMI workshops designed to help people with mental health conditions share their stories effectively with lawmakers. Sessions in Wausau, Merrill, and Antigo will cover personal storytelling and advocacy skills, with dates and locations to be announced on NAMI’s website and social media.
   

4. Evers issues 167 pardons; total eclipses 1,800 (fox11online.com) — Gov. Tony Evers has granted 167 new pardons, bringing his total since 2019 to 1,807, a statewide move that can affect residents across Wisconsin, including Wausau. He only considers applicants who finished their sentences at least five years ago, have no pending charges, and are not required to register as sex offenders.
